Astrology - Planets - Neptune Revealed

ever changing planet of blue

Neptune is the fourth largest planet in our solar system and is the smallest of the three gas giants. The blue planet is subject to ever changing weather that features bright ammonia ice clouds, stormy regions and white clouds.

It radiates twice the amount of energy it receives from the Sun and this heat powers Neptune's extreme winds and violent storms. Winds on Neptune travel with huge speed 1,200 miles per hour. While the winds rage the planet moves at a slow pace taking 165 Earth years to orbit the Sun.

The first two thirds of Neptune is composed of a mixture of molten rock, water, liquid ammonia and methane. The outer third is a mix of hot gases - hydrogen, helium, water and methane.

It is the methane gas that reflects blue light that gives Neptune its blue colour. The blue appearance makes a fitting link to the planets namesake.

Neptune was the Roman god of the sea. Neptune was also the god of earthquakes and was called the Earth-shaker.

A popular and powerful god Neptune was associated with fresh water as well as the oceans and was also worshipped by the Romans as a god of horses under the name Neptune Equester, patron of horse-racing.
